We are not sure if or when this incredible gal ever sleeps. June and her husband Ian are known for creating many local miracles and continue to offer their energy, expertise and financial support to a myriad of community services including our new Oakville Hospital. June established HIPPY Oakville an international program that provides free preschool education. HIPPY Oakville serves 80 vulnerable children who speak 31 languages. She served on the board of the Community Foundation for 9 years, 2 as chair of the board. In 2011, June became Co-Chair of the Halton Poverty Round Table with the unwavering vision to eliminate poverty in Halton.
Today June co-chairs SmartStart Halton, A Canada Learning Bond campaign, with a mandate, to enroll 21,000 eligible children living in Halton, in the Federal Government’s Free Registered Education Plan. She aslo serves as a Vice-chair of the board of Lighthouse for Grieving Children, Oakville; is a member of the Industry Council for Home Sweet Hope, Oakville; and the President’s Advisory Council of Sheridan College. And finally, she shines as a devoted grandmother of 4 and foster mother of a Canada Guide Dog. We are truly honoured to showcase June Cockwell as one of “Oakville’s Heroes.”
