President of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce
John Sawyer was appointed President of the Oakville Chamber in September 2005. Since then he has led a remarkable team of staff and volunteers. Collectively they have grown the chamber to become the fifth largest Chamber in Ontario and one of the top 20 Chambers in Canada. In 2012, in recognition of his community service, John received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, was recognized by the Halton Women’s Centre at their “Men Who Make a Difference” celebration and was named as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Clubs of Oakville. In 2014, he was awarded the prestigious James Gordon Carnegie Memorial Award at the Annual General Meeting of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. John and his team have hosted an extensive list of business, political, and community leaders over the years including Justin Trudeau, Stephen Harper, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston the Governor General of Canada, Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz, Jim Treliving of Dragon’s Den, and Peter Mansbridge just to name a few. John and his wife Marianne both grew up in Oakville. They have been happily married for 37 years and still call Oakville home.
