Our local Heroes this month originated with two cool guys who had a dream that swiftly flourished to include approximately 150 likeminded Heroes.
Based on a simple platform that started in the US with 100 Women Who Care in 2006, Oakvillians Amir Gorgi and Donald Belovich took it upon themselves to bring this great initiative to Halton and founded 100 Guys Who Care Oakville.
The mission of the Oakville chapter is simple: bring together 100-plus guys in Oakville and Halton who care about local community causes and are committed to helping them out. They meet four times a year for an hour, network and vote for a local charity. Each guy contributes $100 to the selected charity making it $10,000 or more total donation from the group.
Their success with this speaks volumes. After ten hugely successful events, this dynamic group of guys, with the help of their generous sponsors, has raised and returned more than $150,000 to their selected local charities. Some the charities that have received this well deserved and valuable assistance are Grace House, Ian Anderson House, Home Suite Hope, Lighthouse, Food 4 Kids, Frontline Outreach and Kerr Street Mission.
